Poorer Govt for the poor

The affidavit sumitted by the Planning Commission defining poverty has raised a new debate that, are the MPs poorer than the villager who earns Rs 26 per day. Even though it is difficult for the poor to get decent food for Rs 26 in the village, our Parliamentarians get their favourite food at subsidized rate of Rs 12.50 only.
The Govt on one hand is trying to devoid poor from subsidies by keeping the criterion for BPL (below poverty line) as low as possible. On the other hand subsidies and freebies for the MPs are increasing day by day. This is on top of the salaries and allowances they get per year to the tune of Rs 45 lacs. Their salaries-allowances has seen hikes 27 times since 1954. The salary of a MP in 2005 was Rs 12000 per month, now it is Rs 50000 per month. Besides salary they get around 15 facilities which costs around Rs 45 lacs per annum to the exchequer. And for Rs 12.50 they get to eat stomach full in the Parliament canteen, whereas a poor labourer can't even get decent food for Rs 20. Let us ask the Govt can they sustain on the sum stipulated by them or else stop toying with the emotions and sentiments of people who really are poor.
